Gilmore Girls is filmed on the backlot at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California. The 110 acre lot houses 34 sound stages (where all the interior scenes of a show or movie are shot) and exterior sets of both fictional and "real life" small towns & streets. There are also prop warehouses that stores costumes, furniture and tons more.
Some of the movies that have been filmed on the backlot are Jurassic Park, A.I., the Batman trilogy, Casablanca, The Perfect Storm, Ghostbusters, to name just a few. Many TV-shows have been filmed here, such as The Waltons, The Dukes of Hazzard, E.R. and West Wing. The sound stages are home to numerous television sitcoms including: Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Drew Carey Show and new spin-off series Joey.

the gilmore set The entire town of Stars Hollow is on the set called "Midwest Street" built in 1946 for the film Saratoga Trunk (1946). Some of the most well-known buildings from Gilmore Girls are Luke's diner, Kim's antiques, Doose's market, Miss Patty's dance studio, the town gazebo and of course, Lorelai and Rory's house. In real life, the streets and houses aren't situated like they appear to be on the show and the location of some buildings have even changed from season to season. Almost all houses are facades and Sookie's house and Lorelai's house are actually the same house (If you would to enter Sookie's house and walk right through the house, you would come out through Lorelai's front door!). Parked on Lorelai's front lawn is the production office trailer.
Many of the exterior sets of Gilmore Girls have been used in other productions. One of the streets in Gilmore Girls has, for example, been used in a few scenes for Ross and Monica's parents house in Friends and another one as "Central Park". The exterior of Lorelai's house was Uncle Jesse's house on The Dukes of Hazzard.
Mount Hollywood can be seen in the background of the set and can sometimes been seen on the show, revealing that they're in a warmer area. To create the wintry east coast look, effects wizards magically turn soap suds to snow.

visit the backlot Warner Bros is one of few Hollywood movie studios that offer tours. The 2 hour tour begins with a short film about the history of Warner Bros Studios and then in groups of 15 you start the actual tour aboard small carts. You'll see exterior sets such as New York Street and Midwest Street (where they shoot Gilmore Girls), the soundstages and the prop warehouses. Routes change from day to day to accommodate production on the lot. If you're lucky you might get a glimpse of one of the Gilmore girls.
