long hours After a script has been written it's read by the WB executives who look it over and who sometimes make suggestions. Then after all the preparations, filming one episode usually takes 7-9 days. A normal workday for the cast and crew is about 14 hours long and they work five days a week. "I wake up at 5 a.m., and doesn't get home until 11 p.m and when I'm not filming, I memorizes and rehearses my lines," says Alexis.

words to spare The average script for an episode of the Gilmore Girls is about 75 pages -- 20 pages longer than the typical teleplay for most other hourlong shows. Because the dialogue is so fast, speech therpaists were hired when the show premiered to help Graham and Bledel master their character's wordy style. "I had to read pages of limericks into a tape recorderas as fast as I could," Alexis says. Even now, the producers tell me, 'it's great ... but it could be faster.'"

coffee addiction Coffee is a big part of the show - both Lorelai and Rory are hooked on caffeine. Are the actresses that as well? While Alexis now has switched her coffee to cola when filming, Lauren says she's good for three store-bought coffees a day. There's a "behind-the-scenes system" to keep the cast and crew caffeinated at all times. It's called a PA, making regular trips to Starbucks. Lauren admits she drinks too much coffee on set and says that it has affected her sleep. "I have to be healthier next year, because this is a really tough schedule," says the actress.

bloopers "Everyone flubs their lines or does something wrong at some point. At least the blooper reel makes it all worthwhile," Amy Sherman-Palladino says. At the end of each season, the best flubs are shown to the cast and crew. Last year, Alexis had her most embarrassing one yet. "I was supposed to get up from a bed after delivering my lines," Alexis says. "But instead of getting up, my shoe got caught and I fell flat on my face."

when working hours are over Even though the cast and crew work up to 12 hours a day they still manages to find time to hang out on their free time. Amy Sherman-Palladino often throws cool parties. Keiko Agena says: "Amy Sherman Palladino throws incredible parties in her backyard. She does themes like Alice in Wonderland -- then she had the perfect crockery and people in top hats, and little sandwiches and great drinks."
